Ironic Athlete
I did not grow up sporty. My family didn’t watch sports and we most certainly didn’t play sports. I tried basketball in junior high but it was a bust because I was not a fan of running up and down the court and seriously cringed if someone else’s sweat got on me. I was GIRLIE…annoyingly so. I got made fun of in P.E. because I didn’t take any of it seriously and would rather claim cramps and sit on the bleachers and watch. I just had absolutely no interest in fitness.
Fast forward a couple decades and I own a gym. It’s seriously comical. And not just a gym but a CrossFit box. Granted, my CrossFit box has more babies in it than bulked up frat boys…in fact, I don’t think we have any bulked up frat boys…but still, I own a gym where I also COACH people to run well, lift safely, and move efficiently. Me, the girl that stopped in the middle of the basketball game to retie my bow. Crazy.
I’m still not a great athlete. I actually still don’t even see myself as sporty. Give me any type of ball and I’m more likely to trip on it than land it in a goal. But I can say that I am fit. Daily fitness has changed so much about my life that I can’t imagine truly feeling healthy without it.
Fitness is not just about how I look in a bathing suit…if at all. Fitness for me is about being capable and having confidence in my body’s ability to run from the zombies, rearrange my furniture, carry Henry around all day because he is so cuddly and just wants his momma to hold him. It’s about going hiking with my family. It’s popping up out of bed well rested when my alarm goes off at 4AM and having energy that lasts through date night. Fitness is about stress relief and having an hour a day that somehow tears me down and builds me up all at the same time. It’s about accountability to the foods I put into my body and acknowledging their purpose to fuel, nourish and sustain. And maybe the most important thing for me is the connection to others.
I think this probably isn’t true for everyone but personally I don’t really desire to get my heart rate up and get all sweaty. I would really rather cozy up with a good book and sit on my booty quite honestly. But the thing that draws me to the gym everyday is the people. I’m a peopley kind of person. I love to see lives intertwining through something as simple as a shared dislike for burpees or sweet “missed you at the gym today” texts. I just believe that we were created for community, for relationship, for connection and I know that beyond a shadow of a doubt that even the most introverted person benefits from being cared for and caring for others.
For some reason March always seems to be the month where everyone starts thinking about getting to the gym. Maybe it’s the warmer days popping up that reminds us that we will not be able to hide under oversized sweaters for much longer or the longer days that enforce the need for sustained energy and good health. Regardless, I want to add to everyone’s draw toward fitness by making this month’s giveaway a “Let’s Get Physical” basket containing:
Sublingual B-Total. Drop this under your tongue twice a day for sustained energy from B-12.
Jason Aloe Vera deodorant…because…well you know.
Magnesium Sport Lotion. This is great for aching sore muscles.
Nordic Naturals Daily Omega 3
Bluebonnet BCAAs
Bulletproof MCT Oil. Perfect for making bulletproof coffee!!
Calm Magnesium packets
Whey To Go protein powder. This is my favorite and most recommended protein. It has less than 1 gram of sugar per serving and no fake sweetener at all! It is just simply whey protein. Nothing that will make you jittery. Nothing that will make you hulk out. Just clean protein.
Collagen. This is great for hair, skin and nails as well as those painful joints.
Essential Electrolytes. This is about to be especially important once the weather heats up and we are sweating more. This is also a key supplement for those doing the Keto Diet.
SFH Protein Packets in Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla.
Shaker Cup
KT Tape
My favorite Taste Nirvana Coconut Water. I love to mix this with the Whey To Go protein powder.
Kill Cliff Ignite Energy and Recovery Drinks in assorted flavors.
